Speedway Miramichi Delivers Tentative 2021 Schedule

It is just what everyone wanted for Christmas – the 2021 Speedway Miramichi schedule is here!

The 2020 season will be a tough act to follow, but Speedway Miramichi management are well underway with intense preparations in an attempt to make 2021 even bigger and better! With that in mind, Speedway Miramichi is pleased to unveil a tentative 2021 schedule of events for stock car and demolition classes – an ambitious event listing which will once again cement the McKinnon Road oval’s status as Northern New Brunswick’s premiere motorsports destination. Outside of the usual stock car and demolition action, more exciting events are planned at the facility and will be announced in the days and months to come!

This schedule is still tentative and very much subject to change. With New Brunswick tracks working together, stock car classes for some events may alternate as discussions following the Tim’s Corner Motorsports and St. Louis Bar and Grill Moncton and Dieppe hosted Maritime Short Track Summit continue. All Speedway Miramichi house classes will have at a minimum five points racing events in 2021, with champions for all classes being crowned at The Very Best Fall Shootout.

“In an effort to start the ball rolling, here is our tentative schedule for 2021,” said owner and operator Barry Richard. “Some adjustments may need to be made in an effort to work with other tracks, so some changes may be announced once other tracks release schedules as we continue our conversations which started at the summit we attended which was hosted by Tim Terry earlier this month.”

Action will fire up unprecedently early, as a special one-off event will be held in January! The inaugural New Year’s Bash will see the green flag fly on Saturday January 16th at 1pm, which will feature the first ever winter Demolition at Speedway Miramichi. Interest in this event has been astounding, with lots of Demolition stars expressing intent to participate! This show is expected to be worth braving the cold, with never-before-seen Demolition excitement starting off the year in Miramichi!

The official summer season will blast-off on Saturday May 15th with the Spring Smash! This annual event was not held in 2020 on account of COVID-19 delays, but will return for 2021. After months of waiting, drivers and fans are always anxious to kick off the season which makes this one of the most exciting events on the calendar! Points racing will kick off across all divisions as drivers begin the chase to earn track championships. There is also potential for more to be added to this event, so stay tuned!

Destruction will take on a whole new meaning come Saturday June 19th, as the stakes will be raised for the ever-popular Day of 8’s! This event is always a crowd favorite, with special emphasis placed on Speedway Miramichi’s “X,” the only permanent asphalt Figure 8 course in Eastern Canada. In 2021, a special trailer Figure 8 race will be added, as drivers hook up a trailer to their Demolition cars for double the destruction! More details on that are to come, but you will not want to miss this! Stock car drivers will also take to the track for their second event of 2021.

Saturday July 10th will see the hometown heroes of the Bomber division take the spotlight on Firecracker Night, with the inaugural running of the Bomber Firecracker 50! Fifty laps will be the longest distance race ever held for the booming start-up class, with big trophies on the line! This race will be especially special, seeing as it will share a name with a former Sportsman race, which was last held in 1997. Many Bomber drivers have direct family connections with many of those Sportsman drivers who participated in those running of the Firecracker 50 over the years. The Saturday night July thriller will also feature a full slate of stock car action, and the Firecracker Demolition to wrap up the night.

After a successful debut in 2020, the Crash for Cash Demolition event will be the anchor of the August show on Saturday August 7th. Young Ryley MacIntosh took home the big trophy and cheque in 2020, and drivers will be seeking to claim glory over what would hopefully be another record car count! For Mini Stock drivers, this event will be their opportunity in the spotlight with an extended distance 50-lap feature!

The Back to School Smash is always a hotly contested show being the penultimate points race! Another fan favorite event, this was the show which has set the modern era record with 67 cars! With a 4pm start time which sees the show transition to under the lights right after students return to school, it is always a thriller! Stock car drivers from all divisions will be battling to gain every point at this one.

As previously announced, points champions will be crowned across all classes during the annual running of The Very Best Fall Shootout and Demolition Blowout on Saturday October 2nd! The 5th Annual Street Stock 100 anchors this event. Being the marquee and premiere event on the Speedway Miramichi schedule, the Street Stock 100 is a all-star shootout which attracts the best Street Stock drivers from all around Atlantic Canada to take on the hometown Miramichi drivers! Playing undercard will be the Mini Stock 50, which has also become a staple of the October event, while the second ever Bomber division champion will be crowned on this night! The stars of the Demolition division will also compete to crown their 2021 champion at the Demolition Blowout!

The season is slated to wrap up on Saturday October 23rd with a fun year-end celebration with the Halloween Spooktacular! This event, which returned for the first time in several years in 2020, was by far the wildest and craziest show of a wild and crazy year. Trenton Silliker emerged from the carnage and flames as the winner just two months ago, besting a 61-car field. In addition to Demolition events, the Bomber “Last Call” will also return. Fans and drivers are still talking about this years’ running of the Bomber finale, and expect this one to be no different! Other classes for the Halloween Spooktacular are TBA!

While no dates have been finalized yet, the Atlantic Modified Tour is expected to return in 2021 with several events in Miramichi. It is also anticipated that a Miramichi track champion will be crowned once again for the class after no titlist was crowned during the shortened 2020 season. Expect an announcement regarding the Atlantic Modified Tour’s Speedway Miramichi dates in the new year.

Drivers are encouraged to stay tuned to Speedway Miramichi social media as rules meetings are expected to be held early in the new year.

More exciting announcements are slated to be delivered in the New Year, as facility management strives to make 2021 another memorable and monumental season! You will want to stay tuned to Speedway Miramichi on Facebook and our website (speedwaymiramichi.com) as those announcements come!
