The 2020 Atlantic stock car season got underway Saturday at Speedway Miramichi with a unique format and restrictions in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A last-minute announcement on Friday meant changes could be made to accommodate spectators in the grandstands, but the format remained the same for the day’s events. Five weeks after the originally scheduled season opener for stock car racing in the province of New Brunswick, and three weeks after the originally scheduled season opener at Speedway Miramichi, the North Shore oval will be the first through the fire by opening their 38th consecutive season of action on Saturday. The event will be unlike any ever held in track history, as COVID-19 restrictions limit gathering sizes to 50 people – meaning divisions will run at staggered times and grandstands will be closed to spectators for the first time in history. Drivers Back On Track June 20th As Yellow Phase Operational Plan Unveiled

Speedway Miramichi is today unveiling their yellow phase COVID-19 operational plan, a plan which would permit the start of the 38th consecutive season of operation for the 52 year old facility, contingent on the Government of New Brunswick permitting gatherings of 50 people. Should this gathering size be implemented by provincial authorities on schedule, the 2020 season will kick-off on Saturday June 20th with no fans in attendance and no more than 50 people on the premises at a time.
